MARSHALL, Texas – Facing their second NCAA Division I program in two weeks, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team was just short of an upset over Alcorn State, 2-1. Earlier in preseason camp, ETBU had an exhibition vs. Louisiana Tech. ETBU is now 1-1 on the year.
ASU broke the 1-1 tie in the 70
th minute as ETBU pushed hard in the final 20 minutes to tie up the game.
Amy Pineda had a shot in the 80
th minute that went left and then her second shot came on goal in the 86
th minute that was saved by the ASC goalie.
There was 28 minutes of no scoring in the first period until ASU's Samara Nunn collected the first goal in the 29
th minute for the 1-0 lead. They kept that lead until the 49
th minute when

Kayla Nichols to tie the match up at one.
Overall, ETBU too 11 shots with four on goal while ASU took 15 with 12 on goal. ETBU had six corner kicks as ASU took five. Two goalies split time as
Megan McCarthy had five saves and
Addison Funk had the other five saves.
Pineda led the team with five shots with one on goal. Kat Izaguirre added two shots.
Grace Freeman, Alicea, and Nichols had the other shots on goal.
ETBU will host Southwestern (KS) on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Cornish Field.
