BELTON, Texas – Battling for the top of the American Southwest Conference, East Texas Baptist University saw their 13-match winning streak come to an end, 3-0, 23-25, 17-25, 16-25, to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. ETBU is now 15-3 and 8-1 in the ASC.
Graycee Mosley led the team with 13 kills as
Avery Reid had nine kills.
Lillie Hill added 22 digs as
Sydney Temple posted 18 assists and 10 digs.
Anita Hancock added three blocks. ETBU hit only 0.022 in the match with 40 kills but had 59 digs. UMHB hit 0.155 overall.
ETBU had a 14-5 lead in set one and moved the score to 21-15 on a Hancock kill. Up 22-16 on another Hancock kill, UMHB scored seven straight points to take the lead, 23-22. After a Reid kill to tie the set at 23, a UMHB kill and an ETBU attack error gave the set win to the Cru.
Once again, ETBU took an early lead, 4-2, but UMHB went on a 5-0 run for a 7-4 lead. ETBU then tied set twice at nine and 10 points. Tied at 10-10, on a kill from Mosley, UMHB answered with a 3-0 run before ETBU tied it at 15 on a Hancock kill. UMHB scored four straight making it 19-15 but two kills by Mosley and Hancock brought ETBU to within two, 19-17. UMHB finished set two on a six-point run for the win, 25-17.
UMHB opened set three on a 3-0 run but ETBU scored four straight for a one-point lead, 4-3 as
Hannah Perry had two kills. The set was then tied at five, six, and seven points before UMHB went up 9-7. ETBU cut the lead to one on a Mosley kill, 9-8, but UMHB went on another run (5-0) for a 14-8 lead. After a UMHB service error gave ETBU a point, the Cru scored three more to make it 17-9. They went on another 4-0 run for a 21-10 lead and then won the match, 25-16.
ETBU will travel to Austin, Texas, on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. to face Concordia Texas in ASC play.
