LONGVIEW, Texas – Playing to stay in the top tier of the American Southwest Conference standings, East Texas Baptist University tied LeTourneau University, 3-3. ETBU is now in fourth place in the ASC at 2-2-1 and is 5-2-4 overall.
ETBU took 18 shots with 11 on goal scoring three goals. LETU took just nine shots with eight on goal netting three goals.
Carly Wyatt and
Cheyenne Vick each had four shots as three other players had two shots. Wyatt led the team with three shots on goal as she recorded one goal. Vick and
Mallory Duncan each added a goal.
Addison Funk had two saves in the first half and
Megan McCarthy collected three saves in the second half.
LETU struck quickly just 43 seconds into the match for the early 1-0 lead. Wyatt tied the match at 4:45 with an assist from
Giselle Laredo. ETBU then had shots on goal in the 1, 13
th (
Isabella Kingsakongthong), 16
th (
Sarah Ramos), 24
th (Ramos), and 27
th (Wyatt) but LETU took the lead in the 31
st minute on a penalty kick. ETBU went on the offense again with a shot on goal by
Makayla Baxter in the 33
rd minute and in the 39
th minute Vick found the tying goal on an assist from Duncan making it 2-2. ETBU had two more attempts in the final five minutes but they were to the top of the goal and outside right.
LETU had the first shot on goal in the second half in the 49
th minute saved by McCarthy. ETBU then followed with a blocked shot in the 51
st and a saved shot in the 52
nd minute. LETU then took the one-goal lead, 3-2, in the 61
st minute. Wyatt added a shot on goal in the 76
th minute and Duncan tied the match at three in the 82
nd minute on an assist from
Aylisse Warren. ETBU had one more shot on goal in the 89
th minute and held LETU as the match ended in a tie, 3-3.
ETBU will have their final two home matches of the year next weekend starting with Texas Dallas on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 5:00 p.m.
