WS | ETBU Records Fifth Tie of the Year

MARSHALL, Texas  – For the fifth time this season, East Texas Baptist University has finished a match in a tie with a 1-1 result against the University of Texas Dallas in American Southwest Conference play. ETBU is now 5-2-5 and 2-2-2 in the ASC.
 
Giselle Laredo led the team the team in shots with four. Sarah Ramos and Olivia Gallegos both had two shots on goal. Addison Funk finished with two saves.
 
The first half started off with UTD making a shot on goal that was saved by Funk just under a minute in. The next five went back and forth punctuated by fouls, throw-ins, and freekicks. ETBU's first offensive action of the game came at 5:17 when Carly Wyatt took a shot that went high. The back and forth resumed until an offsides was called on UTD at 7:02, as this was the first of seven calls the Comets would have in this half. The Tiger's next shot of the game was taken by Laredo at 9:31 as it was blocked. Laredo would then attempt the first shot on goal of the game at 11:14 which was saved by the Comets goalkeeper. Funk made her second save of the game at 13:37. Ramos had an attempt on goal at 30:09 and two minutes later at 32:44 Laredo fired a shot the missed to the left of the goal. Elizabeth Wynne attempted a shot on goal at 35:42 and not even two minutes later Ramos attempted another shot on goal at 37:16. Katherine Vela saw a chance at the goal with a shot at 42:28 that was saved by UTD, to close out the offensive action for ETBU this half, 0-0.
 
Wyatt started off the second half with a shot just 18 seconds in that was saved by UTD. After a UTD goal kick and multiple throw ins from both teams, Mallory Duncan tried to break the stalemate with a shot attempt at 52:54 which missed right. Gallegos followed up that attack with a shot on goal attempt at 53:26 that was saved by the Comets. Isabella Kingsakongthong fired a shot attempt at 58:48 and Laredo followed at 60:49 both unfortunately went high missing the goal. The Tigers kept attacking with Cheynne Vick attempting a shot on goal at 62:01. The stalemate was finally broken, just not in the Tigers favor, as the Comets scored a goal at 66:39. ETBU was not discouraged by this and went on the attack resulting in a goal scored by Gallegos with the assistance of Rose Comstive and Ramos at 84:24 which tied the game up at one. Neither team had a chance for a shot in the final five minutes as the match ended in a tie, 1-1.
 
ETBU will host the University of the Ozarks on Saturday at Cornish Field at 5:00 PM.
