MARSHALL, Texas – Not able to find the goal in the final home match of the season, East Texas Baptist University fell to the University of the Ozarks, 2-0, at Cornish Field. ETBU is now 5-3-5 and 2-3-2 in the American Southwest Conference.
ETBU out shot Ozarks, 15-12, but only had six shots on goal to the Eagle's 11.
Giselle Laredo led the team with four shots while
Izel Gaitan added three shots.
Olivia Gallegos produced two of the six shots on goal.
Megan McCarthy recorded six saves and no goals against while
Addison Funk recorded three saves and two goals allowed.
The first half started off with
Carly Wyatt taking the first shot of the game at 2:26 unfortunately it missed. Around four minutes later, McCarthy made her first save of the game at 6:40. The next offensive action for the Tigers came from Laredo who attempted a shot at 10:00. McCarthy had her second save of the game at 10:45. After a foul and a yellow card on the Eagles, the Tigers first shot on goal was attempted by Haley Maloy at 14:28, but it was saved by the Eagles goalkeeper. McCarthy had her third save of the game at 19:38. It was around eleven minutes of back and forth play before McCarthy collected her fourth save at 30:30.
Izel Gaitan attempted a shot at 31:59 but it went right of the goal. McCarthy had two saves in the span of three minutes first at 34:38 and the second at 37:28 ti gave six saves in the half. The half ended in a tie, 0-0.
Caroline Wilemon started the second half firing a shot on goal that was saved by the Eagles at 50:37. The next shot on goal attempt came from Laredo but once again it was saved at 53:26. Only two minutes later, at 55:37, Laredo attempted a shot but it went to the left of the goal. Less than a minute later, Gallegos attempted a shot on goal but it was saved by the Eagles (56:21). Gaitan attempted a shot at 58:36 going over the top right of the goal. The back and forth exchange of the two teams continued until the Eagles scored a goal at 65:05. The Tigers were not deterred as Gaitan attempted a shot that went over the top right of the goal at 66:15.
Addison Funk made her first save of the game at 71:31. After three fouls on the Tigers, the Eagles scored their second goal on a penalty kick at 73:53. Around three minutes later Gallegos attempted a shot on goal but it was stopped at 76:13 as ETBU still trailed, 2-0. Funk made her second save of the game at 76:51. Not long after, Laredo attempted a shot that missed to the left at 78:28.
Mallory Duncan attempted a shot on goal that was saved by the Ozarks goalkeeper at 83:53. Kat Izaguirre attempted a shot but missed the goal to the left at 86:49. Funk had her third save of the game at 88:55. The Tigers last offensive action of the game came from Izaguirre but it didn't connect as ETBU fell, 2-0.
