MARSHALL, Texas – Collecting their 12
th sweep of the year, East Texas Baptist University took three sets away from Howard Payne University, 25-16, 25-10, 25-19, winning their 20
th match. ETBU is now 20-3 and 11-1 in the American Southwest Conference holding a 10-0 record in Ornelas Gym.
ETBU hit .346 with 47 kills recording 19 kills in set with a .444 hitting percentage.
Avery Reid and
Graycee Mosley both had 15 kills. Reid hit .591 with just two errors on 22 attacks and Mosley earned another double-double with 11 digs.
Lillie Hill led the team with 18 digs and
Sydney Temple recorded 22 assists. ETBU had 10 blocks overall as
Anita Hancock had three.
HPU took a 6-5 lead in set one before ETBU took an 11-9 lead on two Yellow Jacket attack errors. HPU tied the set at 11 and 14 but then ETBU wen on a 7-0 run for a 21-14 lead. Mosley and Reid each had a kill in the run. ETBU then scored four of the final six points with all the points on Reid kills making it 25-16.
ETBU dominated set two starting off with an 8-2 lead with kills from
Hannah Perry, Hancock, and Mosley. HPU came within five, 13-8, but ETBU followed with 11 straight points making it 24-8.
Taylor Poore collected two service aces and kills were spread out from Perry, Mosley,
Avery Morris, and
Rachael Spicer. A Mosley kill finished the set, 25-10, for the 2-0 lead.
Set three started off with a 4-1 lead from HPU but ETBU bounced back with a 9-7 lead on kills from Mosley, Moody, and Reid. Tied at 13, ETBU scored four straight points to make it, 17-13 on a service ace from
McKenzie Mansell. HPU pulled to within two, 19-17, but two kills from Reid and a Moody service ace made it, 22-17. The Yellow Jackets fought back to within three, 22-19, but a Reid kill, HPU attack error, and Perry kill ended the match, 25-19.
ETBU will host Sul Ross State for one last time on Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. in Ornelas Gym.
