MARSHALL, Texas - Putting up another sweep for Homecoming weekend, East Texas Baptist University defeated Sul Ross State University in three sets, 25-13, 25-13, 25-15. As SRSU is in their transition to NCAA Division II, this match is considered in-region and will not impact records within the American Southwest Conference. ETBU is now 21-3 on the season, and remains undefeated at home, 11-0.
ETBU recorded 54 kills while hitting .440 percent, their best this season. ETBU's defense held the Lobos to only 21 kills, hitting .138 overall.
Graycee Mosley led ETBU with 23 kills, and made it a double-double with 10 digs. Alongside Mosley at the net was
Hannah Perry, recording 11 kills.
Sydney Temple led with 28 assists and
Lillie Hill recorded 20 digs.
Set one began close, with the score staying tied at three. A kill by Perry gave ETBU the advantage, 4-3. Mosley would put up a kill, giving the Tigers a three-point lead, 6-3. After a run, SRSU lowered the Tiger lead to one, 11-10, sending ETBU into a run with kills from
Avery Reid, Mosley, Perry, and
Rachael Spicer, to go up, 17-10. A block by
Grace Williamson and
Maddison Harris gave the Tigers a 10-point advantage, 23-13. The Tigers took the first set after a kill by Reid from
McKenzie Mansell, 25-13.
ETBU had a strong start in set two, going up 6-1 after kills by
Anita Hancock, Perry, and Mosley. Back-to-back kills by Reid gave the Tigers a nine-point advantage, 12-3. The Lobos lowered the lead to eight, 13-5, but a kill by
Lexi Moody gave ETBU the double-digit lead, 15-5. Moody followed, raising the advantage with back-to-back aces, making it 17-5. SRSU had a run to make it to double-digits, 21-10. A kill by
Maddison Harris brought set-point, with a Mosley kill ending the second set, 25-13.
Mosley excelled in the third and final set recording 10 of the Tiger's 18 kills and hitting .643 percent. Mirroring the first set, set three began close, staying tied to four. ETBU took the lead with Mosley putting up three consecutive kills, 7-4. Continuing the Tiger run, Moody recorded a kill, followed by Mosley putting up four more uninterrupted kills making it 12-4. The Lobos closed in, lowering the ETBU advantage to four, 16-12. The Tigers responded with kills from Mosley, Perry, and Reid, regaining a seven-point lead, 19-12. Hancock recorded a kill from Moody, creating game-point, 24-15, with Mosley recording an ace to end set three and the match, 25-15.
ETBU will play again at home on Friday, November 3rd, at 6:00 pm against Hardin-Simmons University.
