MARSHALL, Texas – An explosive 25 minutes of scoring to start the match led to Hardin-Simmons University holding off East Texas Baptist University, 4-1, in American Southwest Conference play. ETBU is now 5-2-3 and 2-2-0 in the ASC.
ETBU too nine shots in the match with four on goal while HSU had 23 shots with nine on goal.
Addison Funk had one save while
Megan McCarthy collected three saves.
Sarah Ramos took three shots with two on goal while
Olivia Gallegos had two shots with one on goal.
Carly Wyatt had one shot and the only goal for ETBU
All the scoring took place in the first half with the majority of it in 25 minutes. Just 31 seconds into the match, Wyatt gave ETBU the quick 1-0 lead on an assist from Ramos. Just over a minute later, though, HSU tied the match at one. HSU then broke the tie in the 23
rd minute for a 2-1 lead and them made it 3-1 in the 26
th minute. The final goal of the half came in the 40
th minute for a 4-1 lead at the half. HSU took 16 shots in the first half to ETBU's four.
The second half was more evenly matched on offense as ETBU took five shots and held HSU to just seven shots. All five shots for ETBU were off target.
ETBU will travel to Longview, Texas, next Saturday and face LeTourneau University at 5:00 p.m.
