REDLANDS, Calif. – A slow start from the beginning of the game led to a 99-65 loss in California for East Texas Baptist University to the University of Redlands. ETBU is now 0-2 on the year.
Both teams shot 44 percent from the floor but Redlands made 11 three-pointers (11-of-36) to ETBU's four (4-of-13). A third of Redlands' points came off of their three-pointers made. Redlands also out rebounded ETBU, 47-31, and scored 36 points off of the 25 turnovers they forced.
Joshua R. Davis led the team with 17 points as
Ryan Elzy finished with 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting recording three steals.
Darry Moore recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Redlands Cameron Brown led all scorers with 22 points.
Redlands took a quick 6-0 lead to start the game but four straight points by Elzy put ETBU within two, 6-4. Over the next three and half minutes, UR went on an 8-0 run for a 10-point lead, 14-4. With 10:24 left,
Jayden Williams hit a three-pointer to put ETBU within seven, 22-15. The last 10 minutes of the half brought a 30-12 run by UR and a 52-27 lead at the half.
It was outcome in the second half as UR ran their lead to 35 points late in the half as ETBU fell to 0-2 in California.
ETBU's next game is Tuesday, Nov. 21, when they host St. Thomas – Houston at 7:00 p.m.
