ARLINGTON, Texas – Splitting their matches on the day in Arlington, the East Texas Baptist University women's tennis team won their first match over Texas Wesleyan University but then fell to NCAA Division II Dallas Baptist University. ETBU won the morning match, 5-2, to move to 4-0 on the year but the fell to DBU, 7-0. ETBU is now 4-1 overall.
In both matches, the doubles match is counted as one point from whomever wins two of the three matches.
ETBU took two of the three matches in doubles for the first point against TWU.
Addy Seward and
Bailey Smith won 6-0 at no. 1.
Jayde Childress and
Grayce Malone then won at no. 2, 6-1, to earn the point.
Seward then took the no. 1 singles match, 6-1, 1-6, 10-8, in a tie breaker for the second point of the match. Smith then won another tiebreaker match, 2-6, 6-1, 11-8 to make it 3-0. TWU won the no. 3 and no. 4 singles to pull within one, 3-2.
Andrea Alvarez held off TWU in no. 5, 6-2, 6-4, for the fourth point and then
Maryam Sharafeldin won at no. 6, 6-3, 6-1 to finish off the match.
DBU swept through the doubles with 6-0 wins at all three matches. ETBU then had two 6-1, 6-1 matches at no. 3 and no. 5 in the loss to the Patriots.
ETBU will travel to Abilene, Texas, next weekend to face McMurry University and Hardin-Simmons University.
