ABILENE, Texas – Winning three tiebreaking matches, East Texas Baptist University came away with an 8-1 win over McMurry University in women's tennis for American Southwest Conference crossover matches. ETBU is now 5-1 on the year and earned their first win over McMurry since 2019.
ETBU came away with a 2-1 lead after doubles as McMurry took the number two match, 8-1.
Maryam Sharafeldin and Fernanda R. Burkart fell to Bridgette Fly and Jenna Vincent.
Grayce Malone and
Jayde Childress shutout McMurry's Emily Nuttall and McKenzie Carroll, 8-0, for the first point of the match. At number three doubles.
Addy Seward and
Bailey Smith then won the number one match, 8-4, over Hope Turner and Hannah DeFriend.
There were three tiebreaking matches in singles that became the difference in the match. Smith won the first match at number one singles, 7-6 (10-1), 6-0, over Turner. Childress then took the number three match, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, fighting back for the win over Jenna Vincent.
Andrea Alvarez also came away with a tiebreaking win, 6-3, 4-6, 10-4, over McKenzie.
ETBU finished off the rest of the singles as Seward won the number two match, 6-2, 6-1, over Fly. Burkhart then won 6-3, 6-0, against Nuttall and Sharafeldin won 6-3, 6-2, vs. DeFriend.
ETBU will see Hardin-Simmons on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.
