BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Facing their second top five team in three days, #21/24 East Texas Baptist University's late rally came up shy of the upset over #4/4 Birmingham Southern College, 15-11. ETBU is now 2-4 on the year.
ETBU had nine hits on the day As
Parker Perez was 3-of-5 with two RBI. Earning a RBI each were
Jacob Evangelista,
Carson Wilson,
Brett Wagner, and
Connor Massimini. ETBU used 10 pitchers on the day as
Jagger Neely took the loss giving up five earned run on three hits with two strikeouts.
Jacob Sherman and
Rece Gustafson each had two strikeouts while
Matthew Irwin had three strikeouts.
ETBU scored two runs in the first inning on an error and then Perez doubled in Hara for the early lead. BSC then scored 12 runs over the next three innings with three in the first, six in the second, and three in the third for the 12-2 lead. ETBU battled back to within three runs, 13-10, in the eighth inning on a Wilson RBI but couldn't get any closer.
The Tigers travel to Alpine, Texas, for a three-game American Southwest Conference series next weekend with a double header on Friday at 3:00/6:00 p.m.
