MARSHALL, Texas - Returning back home from Central Texas, the East Texas Baptist University men's basketball team will be facing LeTourneau University on Saturday in Ornelas Gym. ETBU will be trying to stay in the top tier of the ASC at 9-4 and is 15-5 overall.
ETBU fell short to #22 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, 89-78, shooting 48% on the floor and 33% beyond the arc last Thursday. They then lost to Concordia Texas, 104-102, on Saturday after a large comeback in the second half. In that game the Tigers shot 66% overall, 69% outside the three-point circle, and 79% on the line.
Leading ETBU is
Aaron Gregg,
Darry Moore, and
Kevin Charles. Gregg currently leads the team with 105 assists, averaging 5.5 per game. Gregg sits first in the ASC for assists and is seventh in scoring with 365 points averaging 19.2 per game. Against UMBH, he recorded 14 points and eight rebounds with two steals. He moved on for 23 points against CTX, recording six assists and another two steals. This season Gregg is now shooting 48% overall, 48% for threes, and 72% on the line.
Moore leads ETBU with 404 points, averaging 20.2 per game. He is second in the ASC shooting 63% from the floor and fifth in scoring. At UMHB, he led the team with 27 points, shooting 79% overall and 83% on the line. He then had 27 points as well as with six rebounds vs. CTX. In that game, he shot 59% from the floor and went seven-for-seven on the line. He now has 128 rebounds averaging 6.4 per game.
Charles leads not only the team but the ASC with 30 blocked shots averaging 1.7 per game. He leads the team and is fourth in conference with 134 rebounds averaging 7.4 per game. Against UMHB, he recorded a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds. He followed putting up 20 points against CTX, recording four rebounds, two blocks, and three steals, a personal career high. He now has 254 points averaging 14.1 per game and shooting 61% from the floor.
A worthy mention from last week's games is
Kurt Labeaud as he had 13 points against UMHB, shooting 55% from the floor and had two steals. Against CTX, he recorded 13 points and one steal, shooting 83%.
LETU is currently 9-11 overall and 6-7 in the ASC. The two teams last competed in December, where the Yellowjackets won, 70-65. The Tigers last defeated LETU in February 2018, 108-101. Leading LETU is Deonte Jackson with 416 points averaging 20.8 per game. He currently sits third in the ASC in scoring and fourth shooting 38% for 3-pointers. Jackson leads LETU in steals (30) as well as field goals (142).
