MARSHALL, Texas - Entering their final week at home, the East Texas Baptist University men's basketball team will face Sul Ross State and Howard Payne in Ornelas Gym this week. ETBU is currently 9-1 at home after defeating LeTourneau for the first time since 2018 on Saturday. ETBU was also included in the first release of the NCAA Division III Region 10 Rankings that were in alphabetical order.
ETBU is now 16-5 overall and 10-4 in the American Southwest Conference in third place. Only playing one game last week, ETBU defeated LETU, 66-61, shooing 47% overall and coming from behind for the win.
Darry Moore had a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
Leading the Tigers is

Kevin Charles, and Moore. Gregg currently leads the team and the ASC with 111 assists averaging 5.6 per game. He also leads the team in 3-pointers (43), 3-point percentage (48%), and free-throws (90). Over the weekend, he recorded 18 points, six assists, and four rebounds vs. LETU. He is now shooting 48% and averaging 19.2 points per game.
Charles leads the team and the ASC with 31 blocks along with a team best 144 rebounds averaging 7.6 per game. Against LETU, he recorded a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds with one block. He is now shooting 61% averaging 13.9 points per game.
Moore currently leads the team with 426 points, averaging 20.3 per game, 171 field goals, and in shooting percentage (62%). In the win over LETU, he shot 50% and added another double-double for the year.
ETBU will be facing Sul Ross State on Thursday, February 9th at 7:30 pm. Sul Ross State is currently 6-16 overall and 3-12 in the ASC. The two teams previously played in January where the Tigers came out on top, 95-85, in overtime. The Lobos last won in February 2022, 72-61. Leading Sul Ross State is Trey Nelson with 337 points averaging 15.3 per game. He is shooting 42%, 41% beyond the arc, and 86% on the line. He leads the Lobos with 99 rebounds, averaging 4.5 per game, and has 100 assists averaging 4.5 per game.
On Saturday, ETBU will see Howard Payne at 3:00 p.m. for Senior Day. HPU is currently 3-19 overall and 1-14 in the ASC. The two teams last saw each other in January as ETBU won, 115-99. HPU last defeated ETBU in January2016, 67-65. Leading HPU is Armenia Ramey with 263 points averaging 12 points per game, shooting 44%, and is 60% on the line. He also leads the Yellowjackets with 124 rebounds averaging 5.6 per game and has 40 steals.
