ABILENE, Texas – Holding McMurry University to just two runs on Saturday, East Texas Baptist University swept the American Southwest Conference series, 11-1, and 14-1, in Abilene. ETBU has now won seven games in a row and taken two straight ASC series moving to 18-8 on the year and 13-2 in the ASC.
Jacob Evangelista led the team with five hits recording three RBI.
Ben Lea followed with four hits and hit his 12
th home run of the year adding three RBI.
Carson Wilson added four RBI on two hits while
Austin Barry and
Jase Jones had three RBI.
Jake Miller and
Nick Massarini recorded two RBI while
Jordan Hara had one RBI.
Sayers Collins and
Hayden Robichaux both earned the wins. Collins moved to 6-2 on the year and Robichaux is 3-1.
Game 1
ETBU 11, McMurry 1
ETBU scored in six of the seven innings for the 10-run win in game one. Collins went six innings for six strikeouts and two hits with no earned runs.
Ben Burroughs pitched the seventh inning allowing one run on two hits.
Evangelista went 3-of-4 with two RBI as Barry, Jones, Lea, and Massarini had two hits.
Carson Wilson and Miller added two RBI as Austin and Jones added one. Barry had both a double and triple while Evangelista had a home run.
A groundout by Wilson gave him a RBI and the first run of the game in the first inning. Evangelista then had a two-run home run in the second for a 3-0 lead. Miller became the fourth run of the game on a wild pitch and then Barry tripled in Hara for the 5-0 lead. Miller added a sac fly in the fifth and then Wilson singled in Massarini extending the lead to seven runs.
Four runs came in in the sixth inning as Jones doubled in
Brett Wagner making it 8-0. Jones followed scoring on a wild pitch and then Miller had another sac fly for a RBIL as
Charles Gordon scored makin git 10-0. Massarini was the final run coming in on a passed ball for the 11-0 lead. McM earned one run in the seventh.
Game 2
ETBU 14, McM 1
The offensive barrage of runs continued in game two as ETBU had 14 hits for 14 runs. Robichaux went five innings for the win with five strikeouts.
Jagger Neely worked two innings with two strikeouts, no runs, and two hits.
Jacob Sherman pitched in the eighth inning allowing no runs or hits retiring the side.
Evangelista, Hara, Wagner, Lea, and Miller all had two hits. Lea led the team with three RBI as Wilson, Barry, and Massarini had two RBI. Hara added one RBI. Barry, Lea and Massarini all had home runs in the game as Evangelista added a triple.
After three scoreless innings, ETBU scored 14 runs over the next five innings to end the game one inning early due to the run rule. ETBU scored three in the fourth and one in the fifth for a 4-0 lead. Massarini had a two-run home run in the four-run sixth inning as ETBU went up, 8-1. Lea added a two-run home in the seventh inning for a 10-1 lead and then Barry added the third home run of the game in the eighth inning for a 13-run lead, 14-1.
ETBU will travel to LeTourneau University on Thursday for their ASC Series vs. the Yellowjackets.
