A&T | Heartbreaking Loss Ends ETBU's Season in NCATA Division III Semi-Finals

BELTON, Texas – In the closest meet in program history to advance onto the NCATA Division III finals, East Texas Baptist University's acrobatics and tumbling team was 1.195 points shy of moving on. Coming down to the final event, ETBU fell to Trine University, 243.075 to 241.880, ending the finest season in program history. ETBU finishes up at 3-5 on the year winning their first-ever post-season meet on April 13 over Adrian College.
 
Going into the team event, ETBU led by 0.925 points. They finished scoring 83.43 points in the event which was three points lower than the day before as Trine posted 85.55 points to overcome the small deficit for the win.
 
Overall, ETBU had eight 9.0+ scores and won two events with four events decided by 0.6 points or less. The meet opened with a 33.05 to 32.90 win in the Compulsory. ETBU scored a 9.35 in the pyramid heat and then a 9.45 in the toss heat winning the even.
 
The Acro Event was decided by 0.15 points as Trine won, 25.25 to 25.10. A 9.30 was scored in both the 5-Element and 7-Element with a 6.50 in the 6-Element.
 
A second straight event, the Pyramid, was decided by 0.1 points as Trine had 28.50 and ETBU posted a 28.40. ETBU scored three 9.0s in the event with a 9.90 in the open tying a program best. They had a 9.50 in the inversion and a 9.00 in the synchronized.
 
Heading into the half, ETBU trailed by 0.1 points, 86.65 to 86.55.
 
Taking the Toss Event by 0.60, ETBU posted 25.95 points to Trine's 25.35 points. ETBU's highest score came with an 8.95 in the open and an 8.60 in the 450 Salto.
 
Holding onto the win in the tumbling event, ETBU had 45.950 points as Trine was just 0.40 points away at 45.525. The aerial pass was the top heat with a 9.175. An 8.425 in the open pass was the second best score in the event for ETBU. ETBU had a slight lead after the event before fall in the team event.
 
ETBU will have individuals compete at the Event Finals on Saturday starting at 11:00 a.m.
