RICHARDSON, Texas – A late rally by #23 East Texas Baptist University wasn't enough as the University of Texas Dallas ended the Tiger's 14-game win streak, 10-7, in the American Southwest Conference opener. ETBU is now 25-9 and 18-3 in the ASC.
Six players recorded two hits each in
Carson Wilson,
Jordan Hara,
Brett Wagner,
Jase Jones,
Ben Lea, and
Nick Massarini. Lea led the team with two RBI while
Austin Barry,
Brett Wagner,
Christopher Robinson, and
Jake Miller all had one RBI.
Hayden Robichaux started the game and gave up six earned runs as Matt Irwin,
Cole Godkin, and
Rece Gustafson all worked the game, too. Irwin and Godkin recorded two strikeouts each.
ETBU took a 1-0 led at the top of the first on a Barry sacrifice fly to right field as Wilson came in. UTD then scored six runs in the first inning and two runs in the second for an 8-1 lead. They added another un in the fourth to make it 9-1. A Lea doubled to right field in the fifth inning to bring in one run and then scored later on a UTD error as ETBU cut the lead to six, 9-3. UTD made it 10-3 in the bottom of the fifth and held ETBU scoreless the next two innings.
A late rally started in the eighth as Lea singled in Wagner for the fourth run of the game.
Blake Mullen was the second run in the inning coming on a double play as ETBU was within five, 10-5. In the top of the ninth, Wagner doubled in Hara and then Robinson ground out as
Will Kelley came in for the final run, 10-7.
ETBU will play a double header on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. vs. UTD.
