MARSHALL, Texas – Allowing just one run while producing 18 hits, #10 East Texas Baptist University swept the University of Texas Dallas, 6-0, and 6-1, in American Southwest Conference play. ETBU moves to 28-5 and 15-5 in the ASC.
Tauryn Cummings and
Courtney White led the hit barrage for ETBU. Cummings was 4-of-7 at the plate with two doubles and two RBI. White had three hits and one RBI.
Ashley Croft,
Corley Carpenter, and
Jalen Perez all had two hits. Recording two RBI were Carpenter and Perez while
Kendall Droesch, Croft, and
Tristen Maddox had one RBI.
Hannah Kelley and Croft earned the wins combining for 16 strikeouts. Kelley had nine and Croft seven while
Toni Tamborello added one strikeout.
Game 1
ETBU 6, UTD 0
Kelley and Tamborello combined for a five-hit shutout as Kelley moved to 11-2 on the year with nine strikeouts. Cummings, Carpenter, and White all had two hits. Two RBI a piece came from both Cummings and Carpenter while White had one RBI.
ETBU scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning with two outs. Cummings singled in the first run as Croft scored. The second run came in with a throwing error to second allowed
Delanie Loya to come home. Carpenter made it 3-0 with a single to centerfield as Cummings came in. In the third inning, Cummings doubled in Loya to make it 4-0 and then Carpenter singled up the middle bringing in Cummings, again. The final run came in the fourth inning as White doubled in
Mallory Pyle for the six-run lead.
Kelley retired the side in the second, third, and fifth inning.
Game 2
ETBU 6, UTD 1
Scoring six runs in the first three innings, ETBU allowed just on run in the top of the sixth moving to 23-0 at home. Croft pitched six innings for her 14
th win of the year with seven strikeouts. Tamborello finished the seventh inning with one strikeout.
Cummings and Perez had two hits to led the team while Croft and Perez both homered. Perez led the team with two RBI while Maddox, Croft, and Droesch had one RBI.
Maddox and Croft homered just a batter a part in the first inning to make it 2-0. Droesch then stole home in the second inning for the 3-0 lead. Perez earned two RBI in the third for a 5-0 lead as Droesch singled in Perez to make it 6-0. UTD's one run came in the sixth inning on a home run.
ETBU will play one game on Saturday morning at 12:00 p.m. in the final game.
