CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – A tough first inning set the tone for the rest of the game as #15/19 East Texas Baptist University had to fight back in the game coming up short to #3 the University of Lynchburg, 8-3. ETBU gave up five runs in the first inning on just one hit. The Tigers are now 41-13 and fell to the loser's bracket having to face Salisbury for the second time in the Tournament in an elimination game.
Ben Lea had two hits and one RBI to lead ETBU who had just three overall hits.
Jase Jones and
Nick Massarini both had one hit. Five pitchers were used in the game as
Cole Godkin took the loss going just 0.1 innings.
Peyton Miller,
Robert Croft,
Hayden Robichaux, and
Trent Clark all saw time on the mound.
Lynchburg took a 5-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. ETBU fought back in the bottom of the inning cutting the lead to two. Lea singled in
Jacob Evangelista and then Jones and Massarini had a RBI single each after that. Lynchburg then scored one in the fifth, sixth, and eighth inning to make it 8-3.
ETBU will now play in an elimination game at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon vs. Salisbury.
