ALPINE, Texas – Sweeping through West Texas with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-14) volleyball win over Sul Ross State University, East Texas Baptist University took their final match in Alpine extending their win streak to nine. SRSU is in their first-year of transitioning to NCAA Division II as this match is considered an in-region match. ETBU is now 11-2 overall.
ETBU had 39 kills with a first-set best .207 hitting percentage and 15 kills in set three. They held SRSU to only 20 kills and a -0.010 hitting percentage.
Graycee Mosley and
Avery Reid led the hitting attack with a combined 27 kills. Mosley had a double-double with 17 kills and 11 digs while Reid recorded 10 kills.
Lillie Hill collected 18 digs.
Sydney Temple added 16 assists as
Lexi Moody had 12 assists.
In set one, ETBU jumped out to a 5-1 lead on a SRSU attack error. The Lobos scored the next two points to come within two, 5-3, but ETBU went on a 5-0 run making it 10-3. Mosley had two kills as SRSU had three errors in the run. SRSU battled back to within two, again, 12-10, but ETBU scored seven of the next nine points for a seven-point lead, 19-12. Temple and Reid each had a kill to put ETBU up by seven. ETBU held onto a six-point lead, 22-14, and finished scoring three of the last four points with a kill by
Soniya Garner and Mosley with a SRSU error, 25-15.
SRSU took a 2-1 lead but ETBU reeled off five straight points with kills from Reid,
Hannah Perry, and Mosley. SRSU pulled to within one, 6-5, but another five points from ETBU made it 11-5 on two Mosley kills and a Perry kill. Once again, SRSU made a short run to cut the lead to three, 11-8. ETBU answered yet again on a 4-0 run as Mosley made it 15-8. Seven of the next nine points went to ETBU for a 21-10 lead as Reid gave the Tigers an 11-point lead on a kill. SRSU scored their 12
th point to come within 11 but a Reid kill and a Lobo error finished off the set, 25-12.
Set three mirrored the beginning of set two as SRSU took a 2-1 lead. ETBU scored four straight points making it 5-2 with Perry and Mosley kills. ETBU went up 8-3 only to see SRSU cut the lead to one, 8-7. ETBU scored six of the next eight points for a 14-9 lead as Reid added a kill and two service aces from
Anita Hancock. Up 17-13, ETBU scored five straight points with three Mosley kills and a
McKenzie Mansell service ace for a 22-13 lead. After SRSU scored the next point, ETBU scored the next three points with a Mosley kill and two errors from SRSU to end the match, 25-14.
ETBU will take on Howard Payne University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Brownwood, Texas.
