#TIGERSWIN | VB | West Texas Trip Ends with Another Sweep for ETBU

BROWNWOOD, Texas - Sweeping through West Texas, East Texas Baptist University defeated Howard Payne University, 3-0 (25-7, 25-22, 25-14), in American Southwest Conference volleyball. ETBU is now 12-2 overall and 5-0 in the ASC and on a 10-match winning streak.

The Tigers had 45 total kills, with a .303 hitting percentage in the first set and 17 kills in the second. ETBU had great defense with 10 team blocks, holding the Yellowjackets to only 20 kills and a .045 hitting percentage. Leading the Tigers was Graycee Mosley with a double-double of 16 kills and 11 digs, with a .419 hitting percentage. Sydney Temple recorded 21 assists while Lexi Moody had 21 assists. Lillie Hill added 20 digs as she hit a career milestone of over 1,500 digs the night before in Alpine vs. Sul Ross State.

It was a quick set one as ETBU overwhelmed HPU, 25-7. ETBU hit .303 with 14 kills and opened the set on an 8-1 run. Six of the next eight points were ETBU's for a 14-3 lead and then another strong Tiger run made it 19-4. HPU responded with three of the next four points making it 20-7. ETBU finished off the set with five straight points with two kills in the run from Grace Williamson.

HPU bounced back in set two pushing ETBU to the limits as the Tigers won, 25-22. Tied at nine, ETBU collected five of the next seven points with four kills, three from Mosley and one from Hannah Perry, for a 14-11 lead. HPU answered with a 5-1 run and a one-point lead, 16-15. They kept their one-point lead, 17-16, but ETBU scored four straight points with a kill from Avery Reid and three HPU mistakes made it 20-17. HPU pulled to within two, 22-20, but a kill from Perry and a bad HPU set put the match at 24-20. HPU added two more points but a Mosley kill ended the set, 25-22.

ETBU took a 12-3 lead to start set three and never looked back. They kept their 10-point lead at 16-6, and 17-7, and took an 11-point lead, 18-7, on a Soniya Garner kill. HPU came no closer than eight the rest of the way as a HPU attack error ended the match, 25-15.

ETBU will travel to Abilene, Texas, next weekend to face McMurry University and Hardin-Simmons on Friday and Saturday.
