BROWNWOOD, Texas – Four second half goals produced by East Texas Baptist University propelled the Tigers to the 4-1 American Southwest Conference win on the road over Howard Payne University. ETBU is now 7-7-1 and 2-3-1 in the ASC.
ETBU took 11 shots with eight on goal but HPU had 14 shots as eight were on goal.
Junior Lopez led ETBU with four shots as three were on goal. Lopez,
Joel Garcia,
Joshua Daley, and
Bruno Palmieri all had a goal. Daley finished with four points with a goal and two assists.
Ryan Lord collected seven saves.
After a 0-0 tie at the half, ETBU came out with eight shots in the second half as six of the shots were on goal. Just three minutes into the second half, Lopez found the first goal on an assist from Daley. Almost 20 minutes later, HPU tied the match at one.
Joel Garcia broke the tie in the 72
nd minute when
Brenden Gajewski found him to take the lead, 2-1. Daley then earned his goal in the 83
rd minute as
Joel Garcia sent the ball up to him for the insurance goal, 3-1. Palmieri netted the fourth goal in the 89
th minute off an assist from Daley for the 4-1 final.
ETBU will be home on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m. hosting LeTourneau University.
