MARSHALL, Texas – Dominating LeTourneau University to secure the no. 3 seed in the American Southwest Conference, East Texas Baptist University scored five goals in the 5-1 win. ETBU is now 8-7-1 on the year and 3-3-1 in the ASC.
 
ETBU took 16 shots with nine on goal, while LETU had eight and three on goal. Joel Garcia led the team in shots and shots on goal with three. Junior Lopez and Ian Ebarb were not far behind with two shots on goal. Bryan Carrillo led the team in saves with one.
 
The Tigers started off great offensively in the first period with shots from Lucas Arreguin (3:26) and Aram Mijares (3:54). HPU took their first shot (9:20), but it went high over the goal. ETBU kept the pressure on with a blocked shot from Joshua Daley (12:05) and a shot on goal from Junior Lopez (17:26) that the LETU goalkeeper saved. The battle for field position continued as Brenden Gajewski had a shot that missed the goal to the right (23:42). The Tigers finally found their opening for the first goal, scored by Joel Garcia with an assist by Dylan Garcia in the 29th minute. Around seven minutes later, Ian Ebarb was able to score the second goal of the game with an assist from Matthew Aguilar (36:10). Up 2-0, LETU attempted a shot to close the gap, which went high, missing the goal (39:42). A shot on goal from Joel Garcia that the LETU goalkeeper saved ended the first half (42:22) as ETBU led, 2-0.
 
Two ETBU goals were scored in under three minutes at the beginning of the second half. Lopez, with an assist from Edwin Jimenez, found the back of the goal within the opening twenty-nine seconds (45:29). Shortly after that, Jacob Wenzel, with an assist from Bruno Palmieri, scored the fourth goal of the game (47:41). The Tigers, not be satisfied, kept up the attack with a shot from Jimenez (51:05), a shot on goal from Palmieri that was saved by the Jackets goalkeeper (52:26), and a shot from Wenzel that sailed over the net (57:58). LeTourneau tried to close the gap down, 4-0, with shots at 56:42 and 63:33 which both missed the mark. Around five minutes later, Joel Garcia, with an assist from Royce McConnell, had the fifth and final goal in the 69th minute. LETU would score their first and only goal at 85:12 and the clock would run out for a 5-1 ETBU win.
 
ETBU will face the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor on October 31 at 7:30 PM in Marshall, TX.
