RICHARDSON, Texas – Playing in front of 600+ fans at the UTD Activity Center, no. 10 East Texas Baptist University took the final meeting against the University of Texas Dallas, 3-1 (25-17, 25-20, 17-25, 25-13). ETBU improved to 19-1 on the year and won the final four matches vs. the Comets.
Hitting .263, ETBU collected 53 kills with 65 digs, holding UTD to a .172 hitting percentage. In set one, ETBU had 18 kills with a .389 hitting percentage and then posted a .379 percentage in set four with 14 kills.
Graycee Mosley now has over 1,000 career digs, earning her 13th double-double of the year and fourth straight with 20 digs and 17 kills.
Avery Reid added 11 kills with three blocks and four digs.
Hannah Perry finished with nine kills with a .368 hitting percentage.
McKenzie Mansell collected 24 assists, and Lexie Moody had 21 assists.
Callie Humphrey recorded 17 digs, and
Emily Millikan came away with five kills.
The Comets took an early 5-3 lead, but ETBU reeled off six straight points, going up by four points, 9-5. Reid had two kills, one from Mosley and one from
Grace Williamson. A Perry kill made it 14-7, and then, with a Millikan/Perry block, ETBU led 16-9. Three straight kills from Perry,
Raylynn Pitts, and Williamson put the score at 20-11. UTD came within seven, 24-17, but Millikan had a kill for the one-set lead, 25-17
UTD pushed ETBU in set two, taking an 8-5 lead, only to see the Tigers score six of the following seven points for a two-point advantage, 11-9. Mansell had a service ace with two Perry kills in the run. Four ties later, at 15-15, ETBU went on an 8-1 run, making it 23-16. All eight points were UTD errors, with one service and seven attack errors. Perry ended the set on a kill, 25-20, to go up 2-0.
ETBU was up, 8-5, in set three, but UTD came back with eight straight points, making it 18-12. They took a 10-point lead, 24-14, but ETBU scored three points before the Comets won the set, 25-17.
It was all ETBU in set four, taking it 25-13. ETBU had an 8-5 lead, but UTD came within one, 8-7. Up 11-9, ETBU scored six of the following eight points for a six-point lead, 17-11. Williamson had a kill as Mosley recorded a service ace and kill. After UTD scored a point to make it 17-12, ETBU reeled off six points for a nine-point advantage, 23-12. Four kills came from Millikan, Reid, and Williamson. UTD had two errors to end the match as ETBU won by 12 points, 25-13.
ETBU will return home on Friday, October 25, at 6:00 p.m. vs. Hardin-Simmons.
