#TIGERSWIN | VB | ETBU is Outright 2024 ASC Regular Season Champions

ETBU held off HSU, 3-1, to claim the regular season championship.

MARSHALL, Texas – Clinching the American Southwest Conference Regular Season championship, no. 10 East Texas Baptist University swept the season series over Hardin-Simmons University, 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-19). ETBU is now 20-1 on the season and 7-0 in the ASC with a 19-match winning streak. They have also won 23 straight matches in Ornelas Gym. ETBU will now host the ASC Championship Tournament on November 15-16.
 
Graycee Mosley led the team with 18 kills and 26 digs for her 14th double-double of the year. Avery Reid followed with 13 kills, and Callie Humphrey added 20 digs. McKenzie Mansell led the team in assists with 28, while Lexi Moody had 18. Grace Williamson recorded three blocks, and Emily Millikan and Hannah Perry each had two blocks. ETBU hit .186 with 60 kills for the match, posting a .304 in set three with 17 kills.
 
ETBU jumped out for a quick start with an attack error from HSU and a kill from Mosley to go up 2-1. Play by the Cowgirls and another kill by Mosley tied the game at three. This was the only tie in this first set, as HSU led the rest of the way. ETBU was within one, 7-6, on kills from Williamson and Reid. HSU went on a 7-0 run and took a 14-9 lead. HSU went on to take set one, 25-21.
 
HSU kept their momentum into the start of set two with a 6-1 lead. ETBU followed with three points on kills from Reid and Maddison Harris, coming within two, 6-4. The Tiger's offense went on a run with kills from Humphrey, Perry, and Reid and multiple service aces, two of which were from Mansell, to go up 10-8. Multiple ties would follow until kills from Williamson and an error by the Cowgirls gave ETBU a two-point lead,18-16. ETBU closed out the set on a 7-0 run on kills from Reid, Perry, Mosley and errors by the Cowgirls to tie the match at one, 25-17.
 
ETBU took an early lead on kills from Williamson and Mosley 2-0 to start set three. Attack errors by HSU made it 4-1, but a service error from the Tigers pulled HSU to within one, 4-3. The set was then tied at seven on an HSU kill. An attack error by HSU followed a kill from Harris, two from Mosley, and another from HSU put ETBU up 12-7. Two kills from Millikan and Reid, followed by a service ace, made it 18-12. A 5-1 Tigers run, with three kills from Mosley, two attack errors by HSU, and a kill from Williamson, ended set three, 25-15, as ETBU took a 2-1 lead.
 
Set four started on an HSU attack error, only to see two come from ETBU as the Cowgirls went up 2-1. A kill from Mosley and mistakes from both teams tied it at three. This would be the only tie in the final set. Of the following seven points, ETBU scored four on kills by Williamson, Mosley, Harris, and Reid for a four-point lead, 10-6. A kill by HSU and errors from the Tigers made it 11-9. ETBU scored four points off two errors and kills from Reid and Mosley to make it 15-9. ETBU maintained their six-point lead with a service ace by Sadie Kasowski, 18-12. A kill from Mansell, a service ace from Reid, and an error by the Cowgirls put the score at 22-16. HSU closed the lead to just three points, 22-19, but a Perry Kill, a Moody service ace, and an attack error by Hardin-Simmons ended the match, 25-19.
 
ETBU will play Howard Payne University at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, in Marshall, Texas, finishing up ASC play.
