MARSHALL, Texas – Staying perfect at home with a sweep of Centenary College (La.), no. 10 East Texas Baptist has now won 25 straight matches in Ornelas Gym. ETBU took the three sets, 25-14, 25-15, 25-15, to improve to 22-1 and keep their 21-match win streak going.
ETBU posted 50 kills with a .362 hitting percentage, collecting 20 kills in set two (.417 percentage). Ten different players had a kill in the match as
Graycee Mosley led with 13.
Avery Reid added 12 kills, and
Emily Sitton recorded eight kills.
Callie Humphrey led the team with 10 digs, and Mosley and
Sadie Kasowski added eight.
Sydney Temple came away with 17 assists, and
McKenzie Mansell finished with 13.
Cruising to a 25-14 win in set one, ETBU hit .342 with 15 kills. Up by one point, 3-2, ETBU went on a 9-0 run for a 10-point lead, 12-2. There were five kills combined, Mosley had four, and
Grace Williamson had one, with a service ace from
Lexi Moody. Another 4-0 run put the score at 19-14 with two kills from Reid and one from
Raylynn Pitts. Centenary battled back to within 11, 23-12, but a Mosley and Pitts kill ended set one, 25-14.
Centenary stayed with ETBU early in set two. Tied at nine, ETBU scored four of the next five points for a three-point lead, 13-10. All four points were kills from Reid, Mosley,
Aubrey Wheelock, and
Lindsey Gooch. Centenary was within three, again, 18-15, but a 7-0 run ended the match, 25-15. Five kills came in the run, with one each from Sitton and Wheelock and three from Reid.
Set three started with a 3-0 lead for Centenary. Three straight kills from Moody, Mosely, and Reid tied the set. Centenary went up 5-4, but ETBU added five consecutive points for a 9-5 lead. Temple had two service aces with a kill from
Emily Millikan in the run. Centenary remained within two, 14-12, but eight of the following 10 points favored ETBU, 22-14. Temple had two more service aces with Reid, Sitton, and Mosley kills. After stopping ETBU's run, 22-15, Centenary gave up the final three points on two kills (Sitton, Wheelock) and an attack error, 25-15.
ETBU travels to Georgetown, Texas, this weekend to face no. 16 Southwestern at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
