#TIGERSWIN | VB | #11 ETBU Earns Ninth Sweep of Year Moving to 16-1

BROWNWOOD, Texas – Earning their ninth sweep of the season, no. 11 East Texas Baptist University took care of Howard Payne University 25-17, 25-22, 25-22. ETBU is now 16-1 and 4-0 in the American Southwest Conference.
 
ETBU had 66 digs and a combined eight blocks. Callie Humphrey and Graycee Mosley led the team in digs, each with 17. Mosley also led the team in blocks, having a total of two, and recorded a double-double with 17 kills. The Tigers hit .244 with 48 kills, as Avery Reid led the team with 19. Mackenzie Mansell recorded 24 assists, and Lexi Moody added 13. Mosley led the team in service aces with two.
 
ETBU went ahead in set one with kills from Hannah Perry, Anita Hancock, and Reid to make it 4-1. A service ace from Moody and a kill from Raylynn Pitts put the score at 8-3. HPU came within two, 8-6, but ETBU would widen the lead with kills from Hancock, Grace Williamson, and two from Mosley for a four-point lead, 13-9. A kill from Reid and a bad set by the Jackets made it 18-13. Kills from Williamson and Mosley pushed the score to 24-17, and a kill from Reid ended the set at 25-17.
 
A hot start by ETBU in set two made it 6-0 with kills by Mosley and Perry, a service ace from Mansell, then a bad set and two attack errors from the Jackets. A kill from Reid made the score 10-5, but attack errors from the Tigers and a kill from the Jackets closed the gap to 12-8. Errors from HPU put the score at 14-10, but kills from the Jackets and attack errors from ETBU tied the set at 15. The Tigers and the Jackets were neck and neck with another tie at 18, but a shift in momentum off service from the HPU led to a kill from Reid and an attack error, making it 21-18. A kill from Hancock made it, 22-19, as a Mosley kill gave ETBU their 24th point. The set ended on a service error from Howard Payne, 25-22.
 
Mosley and Mansell had two kills in set three to take a 2-1 lead, but a kill by the Jackets and attack errors by the Tigers shifted the momentum to HPU 4-3. Howard Payne went up, 10-5, but the Tigers began the climb back with three kills from Mosely and errors by the Jackets, closing the HPU lead to just two points, 12-10. A kill from Reid tied the game at 13, with another tie at 17. An attack error by the Tigers had HPU up 21-18, but errors by the Jackets and kills from Mosley and Reid put ETBU back in the lead 23-22. Howard Payne's back-to-back attack errors ended set three 25-22, and the match as ETBU took the victory.
 
ETBU will face off against LeTourneau University next Friday, October 11, in Marshall, Texas, at 6:00 p.m.
