GEORGETOWN, Texas – Hot shooting in the first half by Schreiner University was too much for East Texas Baptist University to overcome as they fell in their final game at Southwestern University, 83-70. SU shot 63 percent in the first half taking a 23-point lead at the half. ETBU is now 1-6 on the year.
Jason Justice produced 25 points and seven rebounds going 7-of-8 from the line to lead ETBU.
Joshua R Davis finished with 16 points and a perfect 6-of-6 in free throws as
Sedric Curry added 13 points and eight rebounds. ETBU finished shooting 41 percent and made just three three-pointers (30 percent) and was 17-of-21 from the line (81 percent). SU hit 56 percent of their shots, was 6-of-20 from the arc (30 percent) and made 64 percent from the foul line. SU also out rebounded ETBU, 32-31.
Tied at 16 (12:55), SU went on a 26-4 run over seven minutes for a 22-point lead, 42-20. ETBU went five minutes without making a basket and had no three-pointers in the first half. SU hit a layup with 13 seconds left for a 23-point halftime lead, 53-20.
ETBU out scored SU, 40-30, in the second half but the damage had already been done as the Tigers didn't have enough to offense to catch SU's lead. With 4:55 left to play
JT Curry had a tip in bringing the lead down to 12, 73-61, but that is as close as the came the rest of half falling, 83-70.
ETBU will play St. Thomas Texas on Saturday, December 7, in Houston at 3:00 p.m.
