MBB | ETBU's Second Half Comeback Not Enough in Season Opening Loss to AC

SHERMAN, Texas – A strong second half wasn't enough for East Texas Baptist University as they tried to overcome a 21-point deficit to Austin College, 74-70. ETBU is now 0-1 on the year.
 
Michael Roberts led ETBU with 25 points and five rebounds hitting three three-pointers. Joshua R Davis added 22 points hitting five three-pointers. ETBU shot 48 percent overall making eight three-pointers for 44 percent and was 16-of-18 from the foul line (88 percent). They were out rebounded by AC, 29-24, but forced 17 turnovers and had two blocks. AC shot 45 percent from the floor, 35 percent from the arc, and was 20-of-20 from the line.
 
ETBU scored just 26 points in the first half shooting 45 percent from the floor. After taking their only lead of the game from a Roberts to start the game, ETBU trailed the rest of the way. AC went on an 11-0 run for a nine-point lead, 11-2. Josh Joe hit two free throws to come within seven, 18-11, and Roberts had the lead down to five, 25-20, on a free throws with 8:18 to go. With under six minutes to go, ETBU was within five on a Colin Roberts shot but AC finished on an 11-2 run for a 40-26 lead at the half.
 
The first five minutes of the second half, AC went on a 13-6 run for a 21-point lead, 53-32. AC still had a 21-point lead, 59-38, with 11:02 to go. In almost eight minutes, ETBU went on a 23-4 run coming within two, 63-61, with 3:35 left. Joe hit one of two free throws to pull within two. He then hit both free throws keeping AC's lead at two, 65-63, with 2:37 left to play. ETBU was within two, twice, in the final 15 seconds but AC hit all their free throws to keep the win.
 
ETBU travels to the West Coast next week to face Whitworth and Whitman
