#TIGERSWIN | MBB | Moore Hits Game Winner as ETBU Upsets UTD on Senior Day

MARSHALL, Texas – Darry Moore came through on Senior Day for East Texas Baptist University as he banked in a layup with 1.7 seconds left for the 68-66 victory over the University of Texas Dallas. The win gives ETBU their 15th win of the year and a 10-6 record in the ASC. UTD tied for the ASC Regular Season championship at 12-4 and will be the #2 seed as ETBU is the #5 seed after tiebreakers.
 
Four players scored in double figures as Jayden Williams and Kurt Labeaud had 16 points each. Ryan Elzy added 15 points and Moore gave 12 points and seven rebounds. Austin Page had 19 points for UTD.
 
ETBU made 45 percent of their shots from the floor, 36 percent from the arc, and 80 percent from the line. UTD shot 53 percent but made just two three-pointers (18 percent) and made 53 percent of their free throws. UTD out rebounded ETBU, 26-25, as the Tigers forced 18 turnovers.
 
In the first half, ETBU opened up with a seven-point lead, 9-2, in the first three minutes as Labeaud scored on a jumper. By 12:11, over five minutes, UTD went on a 16-5 run to take at four-point lead, 18-14. ETBU answered on a 10-0 run in three minutes for a six-point lead, 24-18. Labeaud hit two free throws for the six-point lead. Williams hit a three-pointer at 4:35 for an eight-point lead, 29-21, at 4:35 and then hit three free throws with 32 seconds left for a 12-point halftime lead, 40-28.
 
ETBU held off UTD in the second half as the Comets outscored the Tigers, 38-28. ETBU moved their lead to 17 points, 47-30, at the 17:03 mark on a Williams layup. Elzy kept the 17-point lead, 49-32, at 15:59 on a layup. With 12:36 to go, ETBU had a 14-point lead, 53-39, on a Labeaud three-point play. Four minutes later, UTD was within four, 55-51, with a 12-2 run. UTD tied the game at 57 with 4:12 left to play as that was the first of five ties in the final four minutes. With nine seconds left to play, UTD tied the game on a layup but Moore received the ball and hit a banked shot with 1.7 seconds left for the win, 68-66.
 
ETBU will face Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday in Belton, Texas, in the first round of the ASC Tournament.
