SB | ETBU Splits Opening Series with Trinity

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Heading to Central Texas for the opening of the 2024 season, #16 East Texas Baptist University split their double header with Trinity University. ETBU is now 1-1 on the year.
 
ETBU posted 22 hits in the series with 17 runs as Haylie Stum led with five hits as three were doubles. Mary Frances Ellis added four hits while both Tristen Maddox, Braidee Glenn, and Emma Bell had three hits. Maddox led the way with four RBI while Tauryn Cummings added three RBI.
 
Avery Holland received the win in game one going six innings with two strikeouts. Toni Tamborello took the loss in game two recording three strikeouts.
 
Game 1
ETBU 11, TU 6

Down 4-0 after the first inning, ETBU scored in four of the final six innings for the win. Stum went 4-of-5 with a RBI as Glenn added three hits. Maddox gained three RBI while Bell and Cummings had two RBI. Stum, Ellis, and Ava Nieto added one RBI. Holland came in relief in the second inning and went the rest of the way allowing just two earned runs and had two strikeouts.
 
ETBU cut TU's lead in half in the second inning and then made it 4-3 on a Stum RBI double to right center field. ETBU broke open the game in the fourth inning with four runs. Maddox and Cummings both had two RBI in the inning to make it 7-6. Four more runs were added in the sixth inning for the 11-6 final.
 
Game 2
TU 7, ETBU 6

TU scored seven combined runs in the third and fourth innings to take a three-run lead, 7-4. ETBU tried another comeback with two runs in the sixth but came up short, 7-6. Courtney White, Bell, and Ellis all had two hits. White led the team with two RBI while Maddox, Stum, Cummings, and Ellis had one RBI. Tamborello went 3.1 innings receiving the loss recording three strikeouts. Nieto finished the final 2.2 innings with one strikeout and no earned runs.
 
White scored Maddox in the first inning and then Cummings flied out for the 2-0 lead. Ellis then singled in Bell in the second inning for the 3-0 lead. TU tied the game in the bottom of the third but a Maddox double put ETBU up, 4-3, in the fourth inning. Four runs came in for TU in the bottom of the inning as they took the lead, 7-4. White and Stum each had a RBI in the sixth inning to pull within one, 7-6. In the seventh inning, ETBU had one runner on second base with one out but couldn't bring her in to tie the game as TU split the series.
 
ETBU will face Southwestern University on Sunday at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. in Georgetown.
