HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Tying the record for best start in program history, the East Texas Baptist University women's tennis team won 8-1 over Shenandoah University to finish off their Spring Break trip at 3-0. ETBU is now 9-0 which ties the best start from the 2016 season.
Taking two of three matches in doubles, ETBU took a 2-1 lead.
Monique Ybarra and
Addy Seward won 8-3 at no. 1.
Jayde Childress and
Bailey Smith then won 8-0 at no. 2 doubles.
Isabelle Duarte and
Kristyn Dunn fell at no. 3, 8-5.
ETBU swept through singles play taking all six matches. Two were tie breaking matches as Seward won at no. 2, 4-6, 7-6, 10-7. Duarte then won the no. 4 match, 1-6, 6-2, 11-9. Yabarra won the no. 1 match 6-4, 6-3, and Smith had a strong match at no. 3, 6-1, 6-1. Childress then won the no. 5 match, 6-2, 6-4 as Dunn finished off the match at no. 6 7-6, 6-3.
ETBU will face both Howard Payne University and Hardin-Simmons University on Saturday, March 23 in Brownwood.
