MARSHALL, Texas – Earning their most 9.0+ scores on the year, East Texas Baptist University battled with #11 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on senior night in Ornelas Gym. ETBU fell to the Crusaders, though, 271.735 to 226.496. ETBU is now 1-4 on the year.
ETBU scored 9.0+ in three of the first six events of the meet starting with two in the Compulsory. In the Pyramid heat they had a 9.70 followed by a 9.30 in the Toss heat. They finished with 28.00 points in the first event. In Acro, the posted an 8.75 in the 5-element and an 8.55 in the 7-element as their top two scores finishing with 23.00 points.
The Pyramid Event brought three 9.0+ scores finishing with 28.05 points to UMHB's 29.75. They started with a 930 in the Inversion and then added a 9.00 in the Synchronized. A 9.75 finished it off in the Open for the 28.05 total. It is the first event this year that ETBU has scored 9.0+ in all three heats.
ETBU headed into halftime trailing UMHB, 97.25 to 79.05.
The second half of the meet brought 25.20 points in the Toss Event. It started with an 8.05 in the 450 Salto followed with an 8.40 in the Synchronized. An 8.75 was the final score in the Open for the 25.20 points just behind UMHB's 26.70.
UMHB pulled away more in the Tumbling Event but ETBU did record one 9.0+ score. In the Aerial Pass, a 9.30 was recorded for the best score in that event. The next highest was a 7.55 in the Duo Pass. ETBU finished with 41.575 points to UMHB's 54.075.
ETBU scored 80.67 points in the team event to finish with 226.495 points. Those points are the second most on the season behind the 227.565 scored vs. Augustana.
The meet for ETBU will be a Tri-Meet at Talladega College in Alabama vs. Talladega and Saint Leo University on Friday, April 5.
