BELTON, Texas – It was a history making day for the East Texas Baptist University men's tennis program as they upset the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, 5-4. It was ETBU's 11 win of the year which is the most in program history and it is only the second time to defeat UMHB and first since 2018.
ETBU opened the match sweeping through doubles play.
Sam Black and
Max Karseno won at no.1, 8-6.
Jacob Daniell and
Erick Van Zyl took the no. 2 match, 8-4, followed by
Zachary Couch and
Slade Austin winning at no. 3, 8-7.
UMHB made a comeback in singles play winning four of the six matches but it took only two matches for ETBU to win the event. Austin won the no. 5 meeting, 6-4, 6-3, and then Van Zyl took the no. 6 match, 6-4, 6-2, for the historic win.
ETBU will next play on Friday, April 5 at home vs. Ozarks at 12:30 p.m.
