BELTON, Texas – Coming down to three close matches in the American Southwest Conference crossover meeting, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor edged East Texas Baptist University, 6-3, in women's tennis. ETBU is now 11-2 on the year.
There were three close doubles matches with two going UMHB's way. ETBU won the no.1 match, 8-7, for a 1-0 lead as
Addy Seward and
Monique Ybarra earned tough match victory. At no. 2, though,
Jayde Childress and
Bailey Smith fell in a close 8-6 match.
Isabelle Duarte and
Kristyn Dunn then lost at no. 3, 8-4.
In singles play, there were three tie breaking matches with all three going to UMHB. At no.1, Ybarra fell, 6-0, 4-6, 6-10. Seward then fell at no. 2, 6-4, 4-6, 8-10. The third tie breaking match came at no. 6 when Dunn won, 7-6, 3-6, 10-6, for the second ETBU match point.
Bailey Smith then won the no.3 match, 6-4, 6-3, for the third team point.
ETBU will next play on Friday, April 5, at home vs. Ozarks at 12:30 p.m.
