WILLS POINT, Texas – Starting off the match with a 3-0 lead, the East Texas Baptist University men's tennis team took a 7-2 win over Covenant College at a neutral court. ETBU is now 6-1 on the year after winning the match at Wills Point High School Tennis Courts.
Max Karseno and
Sam Black started off with a tiebreaking, 8-7, win at no. 1 doubles.
Zachary Couch and
Orren Ladner won at no. 3, 8-3, as did
Jacob Daniell and
Erick Van Zyl at no. 2 doubles for the 3-0 lead.
CC won the no. 4 match, 6-3, 6-2, cutting ETBU's lead to 3-1, but Black won no. 2 singles, 7-5, 7-6, in a tie breaker making it 4-1. CC then won the no. 1 match, 4-6, 6-2, 10-7, in a tie breaker to come within two, 4-2. Couch gave ETBU the match win, 5-2, in a 7-5, 7-6, win at no. 3 singles. Daniell then took the no. 6 match, 7-5, 6-2, and
Slade Austin won no. 5, 6-4, 6-3, for the 7-2 decision.
ETBU will host Rhodes College on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in their next match.
