MEQUON, Wisc. – Facing off against Texas Lutheran University for a third time this season, East Texas Baptist University came up short of advancing in the NCATA Division III National Tournament, 238.715 to 222.990. ETBU is the no. 4 seed in the NCATA Division III National Tournament and will now compete in a tri-meet on Friday night at 6:00 p.m.
Tying their season high with 9.0+ scores, ETBU had six overall in the meet. ETBU earned two 9.0 scores in the first event of the Compulsory scoring 29.70 but started off almost five points behind TLU's 34.125. The top score of 9.45 came in the toss heat while a 9.275 was in the pyramid heat.
A 9.20 came in the Acro Event in the 7-Element as the Tiger's best score. The scored an 8.55 in the 5-Element and finished with 22.65 points as TLU scored 25.125. The fourth 9.0+ score was a 9.575 in the open of the Pyramid Event. They also added a 9.45 in the synchronized and finished with 25.975 coming just under two points behind TLU's 27.375. ETBU trailed at halftime, 86.63 to 78.33.
Two 8.0+ scores came in the Toss Event with an 8.60 in the 450 Salto and an 8.575 in the open. They came away with 24.575 points which was the second closest event to TLU who scored 25.80. The Tumbling Event brought 42.25 points with a 9.125 in the aerial pass as the sixth 9.0+ score of the meet for ETBU. TLU finished with 47.35 points.
The team event scores were about a point a part from each other as ETBU scored a 77.84 to TLU's 78.94 as ETBU finished with 222.99 points.
ETBU will face no. 7 seed Buffalo State and the loser of the no. 3 Concordia Wisconsin/no. 6 Stevenson meet at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night in a tri-meet.
