MEQUON, Wisc. – Going out with their best overall score of the year, the no. 4 East Texas Baptist University acrobatics and tumbling team won the tri-meet over no. 6 seed Stevenson University and no. 7 seed Buffalo State to finish the season at 4-7. ETBU scored 227.665 points to Stevenson's 209.550 and Buffalo State's 127.450. The four wins are the most in program history topping their three wins last season.
Starting off with 30.33 points in the Compulsory Event, ETBU scored a 9.475 in the pyramid heat. They also had an 8.575 in the toss heat and an 8.475 in the acro heat. They finished almost five points better than Stevenson (25.75) and eight points more than Buffalo State (22.35).
ETBU scored 25.70 points in the Acro Event adding another 9.0+ score. In the 7-Element, they recorded a 9.475 and then had n 8.35 in the 5-Element and a 7.875 in the 6-Element. Steven came away with 23.40 points and Buffalo State gained 23.20 points.
The final event before halftime was the Pyramid Event. Stevenson edged ETBU, 26.40 to 25.85, for the event win. ETBU had their third 9.0+ score of the meet with a 9.525 in the synchronized. They also posted an 8.925 in the inversion and a 7.40 in the open.
ETBU held a six-point lead at half time over Stevenson, 81.88 to 75.55, as Buffalo State had 70.675 points.
Winning the Toss Event coming out of halftime with 25.65 points, ETBU scored all 8.0+ scores. They had an 8.80 in the 450 Salto followed by an 8.25 in the synchronized. In the open, they finished with an 8.60 coming in three-points ahead of Stevenson's 22.35 and Buffalo State's 21.225 points.
The Tumbling Event was a tight score between ETBU and Stevenson as the Tigers held onto a two-point advantage, 42.35 to 40.85. Buffalo State recorded 35.55. The fourth 9.0+ score for ETBU of the meet came in the aerial pass with a 9.20. In the duo pass, ETBU added an 8.150 and a 7.125 in the open pass.
Finishing out the meet with the Team Event, ETBU scored 77.79 points to Stevenson's 70.80 points to win the meet. Buffalo State did not score in the team event.
ETBU's 227.665 is just 0.10 points better than their top score of 227.565 they scored against East Stroudsburg on March 4.
ETBU will participate in two events on the final day on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
