LONGVIEW, Texas – Remaining undefeated in the American Southwest Conference East Division, East Texas Baptist University took an 8-1 decision in women's tennis over LeTourneau University on the road. ETBU is now 13-3 overall and 3-0 in the ASC East. The win now sets up a championship match with Texas Dallas next Friday in Marshall.
The only match that ETBU dropped came in doubles play at no. 1, 8-6.
Bailey Smith and
Jayde Childress blanked LETU at the no. 2 match, 8-0. Isabell Duarte and
Kristyn Dunn held onto an 8-5 win at no. 3 for a 2-1 advantage.
Monique Ybarra put ETBU up, 3-1, winning the no. 2 singles match, 6-2, 6-4, and then
Addy Seward made it 4-1 at no. 1 in a 7-6 (7-1), 6-1 win. Smith clinched the match win at no. 3, 5-1, with a 6-0, 2-6, 7-5, tie breaking win. Duarte then won the no. 4 match, 6-4, 7-5, with Childress taking no. 5, 6-0, 6-1. Dunn made it 8-1 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at no. 6 to finish the match.
ETBU will face off against Texas Dallas on Friday, April 19, at 2:00 p.m. in Marshall for the ASC East Division championship.
