#TIGERSWIN | BB | #5/6 ETBU Hits Seven Home Runs in DH Sweep of HSU

ABILENE, Texas – In windy, West Texas, no. 5/6 East Texas Baptist University produced 37 hits with 28 runs as the pitching staff recorded 23 strike outs sweeping another American Southwest Conference series taking down Hardin-Simmons University, 14-3, and 14-5. ETBU is now 27-6 and 17-1 in the ASC.
 
Dylan Burnaman was 7-for-10 with two home runs and nine RBI with a 1.300 slugging percentage in the double header. Michael Gallegos and Nicolas Chavez added five hits as Jacob Evangelista and Nick Massarini added four hits. ETBU had two doubles and seven home runs on Saturday. After Burnaman's two home runs, Chavez, Evangelista, Massarini, Connor Massimini, and Brett Wagner all had a home run.
 
Six pitchers were used as Sayers Collins earned the win in game one and is now 8-1 on the year. He had 11 strikeouts giving up one earned run and six hits. Jacob Sherman earned the win in relief striking out four batters giving up no runs with two hits in three innings of work.
 
Game 1
ETBU 14, HSU 3

Three big innings of offense led ETBU to the 11-run win in the first game that was seven innings. ETBU scored six runs in the third, five runs in the sixth, and three runs in the seventh with 12 hits and two home runs. Collins pitched six innings recording 11 strikeouts with one earned run and six hits. He retired the side in the sixth. Ben Burroughs pitched the seventh inning giving up two runs on four hits.
 
Burnaman was 3-for-5 with six RBI and three runs scored and a home run. Gallegos and Massarini added two hits. Wagner added a home run for four RBI as Massimini recorded three RBI. Chavez gave ETBU one RBI.
 
HSU took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but ETBU fired back in the third with six runs. Burnaman and Massimini both had a RBI to take the 2-1 lead in back-to-back at-bats. Two batters later, Wagner hit a grand slam making it 6-1. Two innings later, in the sixth inning, ETBU recorded five runs for a 10-run lead, 11-1. Burnaman added two more RBI with a single through the right side for an 8-1 lead. Massimini followed with a two RBI double pushing the lead to nine, 10-1. Chavez finished the scoring with a single to center field for the 11-1 lead.
 
Burnaman swatted a three-run home run in the seventh inning for a 14-2 lead finishing with six RBI in the game. HSU added one run in the seventh for the 14-3 final.
 
Game 2
ETBU 14, HSU 5

The scoring continued in game two as ETBU earned runs in seven of the nine innings finishing with 14 runs and 25 hits. Burnaman was 4-of-5 with three RBI as Chavez also went 4-for-5 with three RBI. Evangelista, Massimini, Hunter Rumachik, and Gallegos all had three hits. Massarini added three RBI as Massimini and Gallegos had two RBI. Evangelista recorded one RBI. ETBU had five home runs in the game as Evangelista, Burnaman, Massimini, Chavez, and Massarini all had one.
 
Four pitchers were used in the game as Landry Powell started the game going four innings recording five strikeouts. Sherman followed going three innings for the win adding four strikeouts, two hits and no runs. Hayden Robichaux worked the eighth allowing no runs or hits as Tate Sloan finished the ninth with three strikeouts, no runs, no hits, to end the game.
 
ETBU had home runs in the first by Chavez for two RBI, Massarini in the third for three RBI, Burnaman in in the fifth for one RBI, Massimini in the seventh for a RBI, and Evangelista in the ninth for a RBI. The home runs accounted for eight of ETBU's 14 runs in the game.
 
ETBU will travel to Conway, Ark., on Tuesday to face Hendrix at 3:00 p.m.
