#TIGERSWIN | SB | Strong Pitching Pushes #3 ETBU to Sweep of UTD

RICHARDSON, Texas – Only giving up two runs in the double header sweep of the University of Texas Dallas, no. 3 East Texas Baptist University secured the top spot in the American Southwest Conference Tournament with 2-1 and 9-1 victories on the road. ETBU is now 29-2 and 19-1 in the ASC.
 
Hannah Benavides and Avery Holland stayed perfect on the year earning wins. Benavides moved to 12-0 while Holland is now 6-0.
 
ETBU recorded 18 hits as Haylie Stum, Tauryn Cummings, and Courtney White all had three hits. Stum and Cummings recorded home runs and White led the team with three RBI. Shelby Navarrete, Stum, and Cummings all had two RBI while Makayla Menchue had one RBI.
 
Game 1
ETBU 2, UTD 1

Benavides allowed five hits and one earned run with one strikeout for her 12th win of the year. She retired the side in the first, third and seventh innings. ETBU had five hits in the game as five different players had one hit. Cummings led the way with a double as Stum had a RBI.
 
ETBU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Tristen Maddox came in on a dropped fly ball to left field. After four scoreless innings, Stum singled in Hannah A. Kelley for a 2-0 lead with a hit down the third base line.
 
Benavides pitched out of a jam in the fourth with a runner on first and third base with two outs getting the batter to line out to Maddox at short stop. UTD pulled within one in the sixth inning with a home run, 2-1. In the seventh inning, with two outs, UTD had runners on first and second but a fly out to right field ended the game.
 
Game 2
ETBU 9, UTD 1

Three three-run innings gave ETBU a five-inning run-rule sweep, 9-1. Holland went five innings with three strikeouts allowing just four hits and one earned run. Five players had two hits as ETBU produced 13 hits overall and nine RBI.
 
Holland retired the side in the second and third inning and allowed the only run in the fifth inning.
 
White, Cummings, Stum, Delanie Loya, and Navarrete all had two hits. Cummings and Stum both recorded home runs as White led the team with three RBI. Cummings and Navarrete had two RBI and Stum and Menchue added one RBI.
 
White tripled in Maddox in the first inning for a 1-0 win. Cummings then stepped in for a two-run home run over the center field fence for a 3-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Navarrete singled in Loy making it 4-0. White then added two more RBI on a double to left field for a 6-0 lead. In the fifth inning, Stum homered to left center field for a seven-run lead. Navarrete recorded a RBI double adding the eighth run and Menchue singled in Kelley for the 9-0 lead. UTD added one run in the fifth inning before Holland struck out the final batter of the game.
 
ETBU will play the third game of the series at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
