CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – Closing out the regular season with two shutouts, no. 3/5 East Texas Baptist University didn't allow the University of the Ozarks any run and just 10 hits, 7-0, and 15-0. ETBU finishes the regular season at 34-6 and 23-1 in the American Southwest Conference.
Sayers Collins and
Jacob Sherman earned the wins as ETBU used seven pitchers on the day. Collins had four strikeouts and four hits in game one and Sherman had two strikeouts and three hits in game two.
ETBU had 27 hits on the day as nine players had two or more hits.
Charles Gordon,
Cameron French,
Connor Massimini,
Jacob Evangelista,
Brett Wagner, and
Hunter Rumachik all had three hits. Rumachik and
Nicolas Chavez both collected home runs. Rumachik led the team with five RBI as Chavez added four RBI and French, Massimini, and Evangelista had three RBI. Both Gordon and
Landon Durdin recorded one RBI.
Game 1
ETBU 7, Ozarks 0
Collins went six innings for another shut out on the year with four strikeouts as ETBU took the seven-inning game, 7-0.
Landry Powell worked he seventh inning allowing no runs and two hits.
Wagner, Rumachick, and
Austin Barry all had two hits. Rumachik led with three RBI as Massimini and Evangelista had one RBI.
Massimini singled in the first run in the third inning and
Dylan Burnaman scored later in the inning on a throwing error on a steal for a 2-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Barry came home on a balk and Evangelista singled in Michael Gallegos making it 4-0. Rumachik had a three-run home run in the fifth for the 7-0 final.
Game 2
ETBU 15, Ozarks 0
Scoring 12 runs in the first two innings, ETBU run-ruled Ozarks for another seven-inning game, 15-0. Gordon and French both went 3-for-3 to lead the team. Chavez recorded four RBI as French had three RBI. Adding two RBI were Evangelista, Massimini, and Rumachik. Durdin and Gordon both had one RBI.
Five pitchers were used in the game as Sherman started to earn the win going two innings with two strikeouts.
Peyton Miller followed with two innings with no hits and one strikeout as
Tate Sloan,
Brayden Hodges, and
Robert Croft all worked an inning each.
Chavez gave ETBU a 3-0 lead in the first with a three-run home run. French then doubled in a run to make it 4-0. Eight runs then came in the second inning. Massimini and Rumachik each had a RBI while French and Evangelista posted singles for two RBIs each. Massimini gained a second RBI in the inning for a 12-0 lead when he was walked with the bases loaded.
Rumachik singled in the sixth inning as Gordon came in for a 13-0 lead. Durdin had a RBI in the seventh and then a Gordon triple brought in
Carson Wilson making it 15-0.
ETBU will now host the ASC Tournament Thursday through Sunday this week.
