MARSHALL, Texas – Senior Day could not have been anymore magical for the 2024 seniors as no. 3 East Texas Baptist University shut out the University of the Ozarks, 9-0, in five innings. Senior
Tristen Maddox ended the game in the fifth inning with a two-run home run to run-rule the Eagles. ETBU is now 32-2 and 22-1 in the ASC.
Toni Tamborello went 3.1 innings for her first win of the year recording one strikeout.
Kassidy Cravey finished the final 1.2 innings not allowing a hit or run. The two pitchers combined for the one-hit shut out over Ozarks.
Five different players had a hit in
Tristen Maddox,
Courtney White,
Tauryn Cummings,
Haylie Stum, and Samantha Crader. Maddox, Cummings, and
Delanie Loya all had two RBI. Maddox recorded a two-run home run. Adding one RBI was
Emma Bell and
Madalyn Melton.
ETBU scored three runs in the first two innings for a 3-0 lead. A Bell walk with the bases loaded brought in White for a RBI and a 1-0 lead. Loya then walked for the second run of the game in the first inning. In the second inning, White stole home making it 3-0. A four-run fourth inning made it 7-0. Cumming had a two RBI single to left field to push the lead to five. Melton was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for a RBI and then Loya walked again for her second RBI as the bases were loaded for a 7-0 lead. With no outs in the fifth inning, Maddox's two-run home run ended the game for the 9-0 win.
ETBU will travel to Sul Ross State next weekend for a regional series.
