#TIGERSWIN | SB | ETBU Belts Out 27 Hits Sweeping SRSU

ALPINE, Texas – A "West Texas" spring afternoon gave no. 3 East Texas Baptist University 23 runs and 27 hits as the Tigers swept Sul Ross State University, 15-3, and 8-1. ETBU improves to 34-2 on the year and now has an 11-game win streak.
 
Four players had four hits on the day for 16 of the 27 hits. Delanie Loya went 4-of-5 with a RBI and three runs scored. Madalyn Melton was then 4-of-7 with six RBI, a home run, and two runs scored. Haylie Stum also went 4-of-7 with a RBI and a run scored. Tauryn Cummings was the fourth player also hitting 4-of-7 with four RBI and two runs scored. ETBU also posted seven doubles and a triple. Adding three RBI was Ava Rodriguez as Shelby Navarrete had four RBI and Tristen Maddox, Courtney White, and Mary Frances Ellis recorded one RBI.
 
Hannah Benavides and Avery Holland both earned wins allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts. Benavides had one strikeout, six hits, and two earned runs. Holland recorded no earned runs, four this and two strikeouts.
 
Game 1
ETBU 15, SRSU 3

Trailing 3-0 after two innings, ETBU erupted for 11 runs in the third inning and four in the fifth inning to run-rule the Lobos, 15-3. Melton, Cummings, Maddox, and Stum all had two hits. Cummings led the team with four RBI as Navarrete and Rodriguez had three RBI and Melton two RBI. Maddox, Stum, and Ellis provided one RBI.
 
Benavides went the five innings with one strikeout, three runs and six hits moving to 14-0 on the year.
 
ETBU had four doubles as Maddox become the program's all-time lead in doubles.
 
In ETBU's big 11 run inning, Cummings had two singles that gave her four RBI. Also recording a RBI in that inning were Stum, Melton, Ellis, and Maddox. With the bases loaded, Rodriguez tripled down the right field line for three RBI. In the fifth inning, Navarrete had a double that brought in three runs.
 
Game 2
ETBU 8, SRSU 1

Scoring in four of the seven innings, ETBU won their 34th game of the year with an 8-1 victory over SRSU. Holland improved to 8-0 with two strikeouts and no earned runs on four hits. ETBU had 14 hits with as Loya went 3-of-4 with a RBI.
 
Cummings, Stum, Emma Bell, and Melton all added two hits. Melton led the way with four RBI as Navarrete and Courtney White had one RBI.
 
Navarette and White each had a RBI in the first two innings for the two-run lead. In the third inning, Loya and Melton both had a RBI. Loya was then then fifth run of the game as she stole home. The fifth inning brought three more runs as Melton had a three-run home run to make it 8-0. SRSU scored their only run in the fifth inning.
 
The two teams will finish their series at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.
