ABILENE, Texas – Great defense in the final game of the American Southwest Conference series propelled no. 4 East Texas Baptist University to their 11
th shutout win of the year with a 3-0 over McMurry University.
Avery Holland moved to 4-0 on the year with a career-high seven strikeouts as ETBU moved to 22-1 and 12-0 in the ASC.
Holland pitched the entire game recording seven strikeouts giving up six hits and retiring the side once. This is her first complete seven-inning win with a career-high seven strikeouts. She pitched out of jams in the first and a bases loaded situation in the fourth with two outs. In two other innings, a runner was stranded on third as McM couldn't get a hit to tie the game.

Ava Rodriguez led the team with two hits each as there were only six ETBU hits. Rodriguez led ETBU with two RBI on a two-run home run.
The first three innings were scoreless as ETBU had only three hits in that time and McMurry two hits. In the top of the fourth inning,
Emma Bell scored from third during a rundown of ETBU's runner between first and second for the 1-0 lead.
McM tried to tie the game in the bottom of the third. With two singles back-to-back and a walk with two outs, the Warhawks had the bases loaded. Holland preceded to get the final out on a fly out to center field to end the threat as ETBU held onto the 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, McM had a runner on third with two outs, but the threat was ended with a groundout to
Tristen Maddox at shortstop as ETBU held onto the one-run advantage.
The sixth started off with a walk to Stum who was then pinch run for by Isabella Morales. After a Bell sac bunt, Rodriguez made it 3-0 with a two-run home run over the left center field fence. ETBU then grounded out and flew out to end the inning but had a three-run lead. McM's lead off batter singled to start the bottom of the sixth and stole second with one out. Holland followed with two straight swinging strikeouts to end the inning. ETBU went one-two-three in the top of the seventh as McM started the bottom final inning with a single. After a pop up for the first out, the game ended on a double play as ETBU earned their 11
th shutout of the year.
ETBU will travel to Longview, Texas, on Friday and Saturday for a three-game ASC series with LeTourneau University.
