#TIGERSWIN | VB | ETBU Wins Final Match at Trinity Fall Classic Over TLU

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Finishing off the Trinity University Fall Classic with a victory, East Texas Baptist University held off Texas Lutheran University, 3-1, 25-21, 25-23, 18-25, 25-22, to move to 2-1 on the year. ETBU will play at home next Friday in the Tiger Invite.
 
ETBU posted 14 blocks with 58 kills and 80 digs, hitting .220 in set four with 17 kills. Graycee Mosley picked up her second double-double of the year with 24 kills and 12 digs. Avery Reid added 16 kills with five digs and two blocks. Anita Hancock finished with eight kills and seven blocks as Lexi Moody earned a double-double with 34 assists and 10 digs. McKenzie Mansell had her ninth career double-double with 18 digs and 10 assists and Callie Humphrey collected her first career double-double with 20 digs and 10 assists. 

It was a tight four-set match, with three sets decided by four points or less. In set one, ETBU took a quick 6-0 lead with four kills starting the match with three straight kills by Mosley. Another 5-0 run gave ETBU a 13-5 lead with two service aces and a kill by Mosley. A TLU attack error gave ETBU a nine-point lead, 17-8, but TLU scored seven of the following nine points to pull within four, 19-15. TLU then pulled to within one, 22-21, but a Raylynn Pitts kill, Grace Williamson block, and a TLU attack gave ETBU the win, 25-21.
 
Set two went back and forth, but ETBU never lost the lead. There were three ties in the first 24 points scored with the last one at 12-12. ETBU had two blocks coming from Mosley, Hancock, and Moody for two points as Hancock finished off the 3-0 run for the 15-12 lead. Two more kills by ETBU made it 17-13, and then a Mosley kill pushed the lead to five, 21-16. TLU responded with three straight points, coming within two, 21-19, but a Bulldog service error and a Mansell service ace gave ETBU a four-point lead, 23-19. TLU battled back to within one, 24-23, but an attack error gave ETBU the set win, 25-23, and a 2-0 lead.
 
After ETBU took an early 6-4 lead, TLU bounced back to take a 14-9 advantage on a 10-3 run. Their lead moved to seven points, 19-12, but ETBU came within four, 19-15. TLU scored six of the final nine points for a 25-18 set win pulling within one, 2-1.
 
ETBU ran out to an 11-2 lead in set four, scoring seven straight points with four kills in the run, including three from Reid. TLU responded on a 5-0 run to pull within four, 11-7. ETBU scored six of the next eight points more, an eight-point advantage, 17-9. Reid and Hancock each had a kill and Hancock posted two blocks. TLU went on an 8-1 run, coming within one point, 18-17, and then was within one, again, 20-19. ETBU came through with a Mosley kill, a Mansell service ace, and a Williamson block for a 23-19 lead. TLU fought right back to within two, 24-22, but a Reid kill ended the match for the 25-22 win.
 
ETBU will face Huntingdon College and St. Thomas Texas on Friday in Marshall at the Tiger Invite.
