MARSHALL, Texas – Opening up the home season with two wins in Ornelas Gym, no. 25 East Texas Baptist University moved to 4-1 on Friday afternoon. ETBU swept Huntingdon College, 3-0 (25-8, 25-14, 25-12), and then won, 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-19, 25-21), over the University of St. Thomas Texas in the Tiger Invite.
With two wins on Friday, ETBU has a 17-match home winning streak dating back to the end of 2022. The record is 18 matches from 2012 through 2014 with 18 straight wins.
Head coach
Mallory Matthews hit a career milestone in the first match, earning her 100
th career victory. She has won 50 matches at ETBU and came into Friday with a 99-42 record.
Graycee Mosley led ETBU with 41 kills and 24 digs, earning a double-double with 25 kills and 17 digs vs. St. Thomas.
Avery Reid followed with 23 kills and 14 digs hitting .404 with seven serving aces.
Anita Hancock then added 19 kills and eight blocks.
Lexi Moody recorded 50 assists and 19 digs, while
Callie Humphrey had 30 digs.
McKenzie Mansell provided 33 assists and four serving aces.
ETBU 3, Huntingdon 0
ETBU opened their home season with a three-set shutout over Huntingdon, 25-8, 25-14, 25-12. Hitting .430, ETBU had 44 kills with 16 in set three. They also recorded 37 assists and 38 digs.
Twenty ETBU players took the court in the win. Mosley hit .519 with 16 kills and seven digs. Reid recorded 10 kills with a .667 hitting percentage and seven digs. Moody had 18 assists, while
Callie Humphrey led with 12 digs.
ETBU 3, St. Thomas 1
St. Thomas pushed ETBU in all four sets, winning set two. ETBU opened with a 25-20 win in set one before falling in set two, 25-21. The Tigers bounced back with a set three, 25-19, win and took the match, 25-21, in set four.
Set four brought 20 kills, and they finished with 69 overall and a .287 hitting percentage. They recorded 67 assists, 74 digs, and nine blocks.
Mosley collected her third double-double in four matches with 25 kills and 17 digs, hitting .345. Reid came through with 13 kills, seven digs, and four serving aces, as Hancock had 12 kills and four blocks. Moody gained a double-double with 32 assists and 15 digs, while Humphrey recorded six assists and 18 digs.
Grace Williamson added three blocks with five kills, and Mansell had 25 assists.
ETBU will host Willamette and Hendrix College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
