CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – Two second-half goals propelled East Texas Baptist University to a 2-1 victory over the University of the Ozarks to remain unbeaten in the new season. ETBU collected goals in the 67th and 72nd minutes for the win and now are 2-0.
ETBU out-shot Ozarks, 14-5, with six shots on goal to the Eagles three. The Tigers' defense held Ozarks to just one shot in the second half which was on goal.
Junior Lopez and
Regan Trojacek recorded ETBU's goals. Trojacek led the team with four shots while
Joel Garcia and Lopez added three shots with two on goal.
Ryan Lord earned the win with two saves allowing just one goal.
Ozarks connected early in the match with a goal in the 11th minute and a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick. In the next 20 minutes, ETBU took five shots with two on goal: one by Lopez in the 19th minute and the other by
Joel Garcia in the 30th minute. Garcia and Trojacek also had shots at that time. Ozarks took four shots in the half with two on goal for their best half. ETBU had six shots, with two of them on goal.
It took just over 20 minutes for ETBU to tie the match as Lopez found the net in the 67th minute. Just before the goal, ETBU's Lord stopped Ozark's only shot of the half in the 64th minute, keeping it at 1-0. Six minutes later, Trojacek gave ETBU the lead in the 72nd minute, making it 2-1. In the final 20 minutes, ETBU took four shots, with one on goal from
Jacob Wenzel, as Ozarks couldn't get a shot off as ETBU won the match, 2-1.
ETBU will play next Wednesday, September 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Jackson, Miss., against Millsaps College.
