MARSHALL, Texas – A balanced attack guided East Texas Baptist University to a 3-1 victory over Schreiner University on Thursday night at Cornish Field. ETBU is now 4-1-0 on the year.
ETBU took 15 shots, with nine on goal, as eight shots (five on goal) were in the first period. Schreiner took 13 shots, with eight in the second half and four on goal.
Junior Lopez,
Bruno Palmieri, and
Dylan Garcia all had goals. Lopez added two assists, while
Regan Trojacek had one. Palmieri,
Dylan Garcia, and Trojacek all had four shots as Palmieri put three on goal. Goalkeeper
Ryan Lord collected five saves in the win.
Firing on all cylinders in the first 30 minutes of the match, ETBU netted two goals with seven shots and four on goal. Lopez made it 1-0 in the fifth minute (4:39) on an assist from Trojacek. Six minutes later, Palmieri had two shots in four minutes, with one on goal. In that time, Trojacek also had a shot on goal. Palmieri broke through in the 26
th minute for a 2-0 lead on an assist from Lopez. Tony Garcia had a shot on goal in the 39
th minute that was saved as ETBU took a 2-0 lead into the half.
A minute into the second half,
Dylan Garcia was fed the ball from Lopez to make it 3-0. Schreiner went on the offensive after that goal and scored in the 52
nd minute to pull within two, 3-1. The Mountaineers didn't take a shot until the 67
th minute, and then they had two shots on goal, which Lord stopped in the 70
th and 73
rd minutes. They continued their attack with back-to-back shots blocked in the 73
rd minute, and then Lord collected his fifth save in the 79
th minute. Schreiner had one more shot right in the 85
th minute as ETBU held onto the win.
ETBU will host Concordia University Texas on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Cornish Field.
