MARSHALL, Texas – Battling back-and-forth in the second half, East Texas Baptist University was just shy of taking the win over Concordia University Texas, 4-3. ETBU is now 4-2 on the year.
ETBU took a total of 10 shots with three on goal.
Dylan Garcia led the team with three shots and two on goal.
Junior Lopez and
Joel Garcia both had two shots as Esteban Leonardo,
Regan Trojacek, and
Bruno Palmieri recorded one shot.
Dylan Garcia recorded two goals and Lopez added the other goal.
Ryan Lord had four saves.
The Tigers started off hot in the first half with the first goal of the game Lopez at 5:40. Following that the Tornados controlled the field for several minutes attempting several shots with none of them finding the back of goal. CTX's offense in the last ten minutes of the half pushed to tie the match but Lord made his first save of the game at 44:07.
CTX changed the game quickly in the second half scoring four minutes in 49:44 to tie the match at one. Both teams went back-and-forth the next five minutes and Palmieri missed a shot over top of the net at 55:33. The Tornados were able to score two goals within two minutes of each other in the 57
th and 59
th minute making it, 3-1. ETBU then blocked shots at 66:31 and 71:07 and put on more offensive pressure Lord kept defending with saves coming at 63:04 and 72:41 to keep the Tigers in the game.
The offensive pressure paid off with
Dylan Garcia scoring a goal with the assist coming from Palmieri (78:31) pulling within one, 3-2. A shot from
Joel Garcia (81:50) to tie the game was blocked by the Tornados. CTX was then able to move ahead by two at 85:01 making it 4-2. Four minutes later,
Dylan Garcia, with an assist by
Edwin Jimenez, put ETBU within one, 4-3 (89:10). The final 50 seconds were rushed by ETBU trying to tie the game. A foul called on ETBU stopped all momentum as CTX held onto the win, 4-3.
ETBU will play next Thursday September 19, at 5:00 p.m. against McMurry University in Richardson, Texas, at the University of Texas Dallas.
